Marriage

God, who created man out of love, also calls him to love the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being. For man is created in the image and likeness of God, who is himself love.90 Since God created him, man and woman, their mutual love becomes an image of the absolute and unfailing love with which God loves man. It is good, very good, in the Creator's eyes. And this love which God blesses is intended to be fruitful and to be realized in the common work of watching over creation: "And God blessed them, and God said to them: 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it.'"  (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1604)

Weddings at Assumption
Congrats on your engagement!  Here are some reminders if you are planning a wedding at Assumption:

Pre-Cana and Marriage Preparation

A very important element in the time before the wedding is the "Pre-Cana" or Marriage Preparation program. If you are planning to be married in the Catholic Church, Pre-Cana cThere are various options for this; Assumption Parish offers a Pre-Cana program, presented by a team of married couples from the Parish, in the Spring of each year. Also, the Diocese of Pittsburgh holds a series of Marriage classes Downtown throughout the year, and there is a weekend experience called "Engaged Encounter."  For more information about the Pre-Cana program, please call the rectory at (412) 766-6660.

Sacrament of Marriage

Couples who are engaged must contact one of the parish priests at least six months in advance of the proposed date and at least one of the parties must be a member of the parish.  This is mandatory and the parish secretary can not reserve a wedding date; only the priests may reserve wedding dates.  A priest who is a friend or relative of the couple is welcome to officiate at the wedding, but a meeting with one of our parish priests is required.

There is a wedding booklet for weddings celebrated at Assumption, which is available for download here
Please call the Rectory office at (412) 766-6660 to schedule a time to meet with Father Dennis or Father Tusky.

Scheduling
Weddings may take place on Fridays (4 p.m., 4:30 p.m. or 5 p.m.) or Saturdays (12 noon, 1 p.m., 1:30 p.m. or 2 p.m.).  We can not schedule a Saturday wedding for later than 2 p.m. due to the 4 p.m. Vigil Mass held on Saturdays.  Only one wedding is scheduled each day.
