Penance

During his public life Jesus not only forgave sins, but also made plain the effect of this forgiveness: he reintegrated forgiven sinners into the community of the People of God from which sin had alienated or even excluded them. A remarkable sign of this is the fact that Jesus receives sinners at his table, a gesture that expresses in an astonishing way both God's forgiveness and the return to the bosom of the People of God.  (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1443)

Currently, the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) is available at the church on Saturdays at 10:30 A.M. and after the 4:00 P.M. Mass, Saturday evening.

The parish also offers penance services prior to Christmas and Easter with the parish priests and many guest confessors.

Children who have been baptized generally say their First Confession in the second grade before they receive Holy Communion.  Their preparation takes place through the Religious Education program, either at Assumption School or in Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (C.C.D.) classes.
