Annointing of the Sick
"The Church believes and confesses that, among the Seven Sacraments, there is one especially intended to strengthen those who are being tried by illness, the Anointing of the Sick... [it] has as its purpose the conferral of a special grace on the Christian experiencing the difficulties inherent in the condition of grave illness or old age." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, nos. 1511 & 1527)
A special parish celebration of the Anointing of the Sick is offered in October each year during mass. It is also available by request, especially after any mass. Please call the rectory at (412) 766-6660 for more information concerning this and for information regarding Holy Communion for the homebound.
Please note that Assumption Church provides for the pastoral care of all Catholic patients at Suburban General Hospital. Other hospitals are provided pastoral care by assigned chaplains or by neighboring parishes.
