Father Robert Boyle (1996-2000)

In January of 1996, Father Robert Boyle came to Assumption from Good Shepherd parish in Braddock. A beloved pastor who had seen Good Shepherd through a difficult merger, his adjustment at Assumption was not easy. He found a parish with a heavy heart, saddened by the reassignment of longtime friend and pastor. By his own admission, Father Boyle acknowledges this to be his greatest challenge.

An affable man, Father Boyle was visible and accessible to all. He had a friendly ' hello' for neighbors and parishioners he encountered during his daily walk along Lincoln Avenue, rosary in hand. Father Boyle worked with parish groups to keep programs going and to encourage growth. He continued the work of his predecessor to develop a Parish Pastoral Council. The school initiated a computer curriculum and the computer lab became a reality. The ministry of Bridal Coordinator was started, a group of volunteers who work with engaged couples in the planning of their wedding ceremony.

The rectory received a face-lift, including a new kitchen, paint, carpeting, and draperies. In the church, the original sacristy was updated with the addition of a center island to make the space more functional.

Father Boyle enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his large family. He claims no great accomplishments during his time at Assumption, but rather would like to be remembered as a priest who was easy to smile, happy to be with the people, and accessible to parishioners whenever they needed him. In spite of a difficult challenge, he enjoyed his years at Assumption.

In 2000, Father Boyle was named pastor of St. Francis of Assisi parish in Finleyville, Pennsylvania.
